Next year 2011, The Cheltenham Festival will be taking place in March, running from the 15th to the 18th.
One of the most prestigious events on the calendar, The Cheltenham Festival often attracts non-standard bettors into the fold whilst the whole of the United Kingdom seems to be gripped in a kind of horse racing frenzy. Excitement will be running high so make sure you stay with us until the off, to ensure you don’t miss any key news.
The Cheltenham Festival runs over four days and last year a number approaching 230,000 racing fans from a variety of countries came to soak up the unique atmosphere. Unique because this is where the best horses British trainers can field, race the best the Irish can offer. The prize money offered during this meeting is only out done by the Grand National, and betting follows suit. This year, by some estimates, HALF A BILLION pounds will be staked by people like us.
To stand any chance at a win you must have the strongest horse, the fences here at Cheltenham are high and unforgiving – for once size does matter. The Cheltenham Gold Cup, which last year offered a total prize fund of £475,000, is in my opinion the most tightly fought contest. It is the top event on the national hunt calendar and is open to horses five years or older. Run over 3 miles 2 and 1/2 furlongs it is a decent test of stamina and strength. 22 fences must be cleared to make it home – anything could happen.
My early favourite is Imperial Commander a very strong 9 year old Irish who has taken the gold cup before. Ridden by Paddy Brennan the smart money is going here, hard. I wouldn’t count some of the longer contenders out though, not just yet. On Betfair, the UK’s premier online bookmaker, you can place a bet on Somersby, a proven Irish winner at odds 21.0 (20/1). Early odds on Burton Port are even more inexplicable, a 17 time winner facing similar opposition and I just secured odds of 49.0 (48/1).
Early odds can be great, especially if you are a sucker for form but if you don’t have the time to study each and every race why not let us here at Bet Fanatic help. We provide the Free Horse Racing Tips and Betfair provides
