The St Leger Stakes Doncaster runs on the 12th of September 2010. It is the longest race of the English Classics series and St. Leger is worth £500,000 in prize money, making it one of the most valuable races in the year.
A Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. The St Leger Stakes is run over a distance of 1 mile, 6 furlongs and 132 yards (2,937 metres).
The bookmakers are expecting a strong run this year and by some estimates the total amount staked is set to top even last years record – which was over THREE QUARTERS OF A BILLION POUNDS!
The 2009 winner, Mastery will not run this year – however the field is very strong so this should not mix it up at the top too much.
I’m favouring Mikhail Glinka at the early stage, an Irish fillie, she is looking very strong this season and impressed me on her last run out. Seven lifetime starts, three wins and three places, my money goes here. On Betfair today the early odds are great at 11/1 (10.0).
As an Each Way Tip I’m really liking the look of Corsica, another proven Irish Winner. Ten lifetime starts and five wins, the most recent on her last run at Newmarket. Running at odds 29/1 (28.0) for the Win, and 7/1 (6.0) for the Place Win, I believe this a great bet as long as conditions favour.
