The US Open Tennis begins on the 30th August and the final will be played on September 12. We are anticipating with ill-disguised delight an event that promises to have all the drama and the passion you would expect. The US Open Tennis, one of the most prestigious on the calendar is taking place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, in New York City.
Only one of the two defending champions will play this year, Kim Clijsters became the first unranked player to win The Open last year and she returns on fine form.
Juan Martin del Potro will not be defending his title as he is carrying a wrist injury and this could help mix things up at the top as the men fight for the title.
Rafael Nadal is back in cracking form and we would expect to see a dominant performance. He already holds the French Open Title this year as well as a second Wimbledon Title and I can forsee a highly charged campain coming from this corner.
Roger Federer has recaptured the grace that has been missing from his game this year and if all goes well I would expect to see these two fighting to the bitter end in a highly charged final.
Today on Betfair, you can place a bet on Rafael Nadal to win at odds 4/1 (3.0) or on Roger Federer to Win at odds 5/1 (4.0). Either of these top Tennis stars could win the US Open but I am giving Nadal the nod to clinch the Grand Slam – and take his place in the record books.
Take a look over to the Womens Title race and things are looking very different to how we expected. Serena Williams’ attendance looks in doubt after she cut her foot on broken glass in a resturant – she now misses the next three WTA tornaments in the build up to the US Open.
If she can recover in time, Serena Williams is my tip to win. After such a powerful performance this year any other result would be unexpected. She is running at odds 4/1 (3.0) on the Betfair Betting Exchange but I would hold off placing until we hear more on her fitness.
Should Williams not play, I would expect a fine showing from Sharapova at odds 11/1 (10.0) and Clijsters at odds 8/1 (7.0) – If the final ends up being fought between these two then I would think experience and a cool head will win. Clijsters is back on the professional tour after taking time out to enjoy life a little and it has brought out a new player in her.
We’ll all just have to wait for the next announcement regarding Serena and whether or not she will be playing in The US Open Tennis in September.
