It has been an interesting few years in the Betfred Sprint Cup – Last year Regal Parade had a strong season and topped it off with the win at Haydock Park. A disappointing early show of form this year seems to have been brought to a close with a dominant victory last time out at Newbury.
In 2008 the Betfred Sprint Cup was moved to Doncaster and the change of ground gave chance for a relatively lackluster African Rose who went on to take the victory. This would be the last win of a career that lasted four years.
In my mind there are only two possible victors this time out and I am torn down the middle by them. On one hand Starspangeledbanner is coming off 2 back to back victories and really looks to be loving the running of late. Early Odds to win the Betfred Cup on Betfair value the chances @ odds 9/5 (2.8) and this is good.
Regal Parade finally seems to have put to bed a horrendous start to the 2010 season, narrowly beating Starspangeledbanner on the last run. An experienced six year old, he really could come on form at The Betfred Sprint Cup. Betfair are offering odds @ 19/10 (2.9) and again I feel this is a good Early Odds price.
So, who to back? If I was forced to only place my money on one of these amazing horses – I would be just tempted to back Starspangeledbanner. However, I have a much riskier, but ultimately more rewarding strategy in mind, The Reverse Forecast. In this type of bet you predict the two horses that will finish first and second, in any order. In return for the added risk, you are rewarded with much better odds and I will be backing both horses in this way. The Reverse Forecast market on the Betfair Betting Exchange will not be available until closer to the start of the Betfred Sprint Cup, so keep your eyes open to spot it as soon as it becomes available as Early Odds will be great.
