Everyone has heard of it, it’s famous all the world over – The Grand National is by far the richest Horse Race on the UK circuit and the next date is set for Thursday 7th – Saturday 9th April 2011. The winner collected 1 Million Pounds in 2010 – although this is nothing compared to the huge amount of money that is bet on this race. Aintree Racecourse has the honour of hosting the most profitable racing event each year and the hospitality on offer is second to none.
The Grand National experiences something of a phenomenon in the betting world – it attracts hundreds of thousands of people who do not bet during the year, into the fold. This sudden increase of money in the markets can make the clever gambler some serious cash. Odds can shift massively when uninformed money is placed heavily on the wrong horse and we can take advantage.
As always with The Grand National tipping can be difficult. There is a large open field and the race is run over a distance of four miles. Strength and stamina are always key and experience of being in such a dense pack is a huge advantage. No horse has ever won the national on their first attempt and I wouldn’t expect this year to buck that trend.

Owner J P McManus’ Dont Push It took the Grand National crown with jockey Tony McCoy riding last year after running a close to perfect race. A highly experienced 10yr old with more stamina than most, she has had no runs this year and this worrys me a little – I would be confident of place claims here after checking the form of the competitionbut don’t think the double is likely.
I am going to tip Denman as not only a smart early bet, but as the best contender for victory. This 10yr old has been showing decent form this year and Nicholls – the trainer has been running some very improved horses of late.
Betfair are offering some incredible early odds on Denman and I have just placed a bet at odds 20/1 (21.0). As the race approaches I would expect the odds to sink massively and by race off be around the 4/1 (3.0) mark – so take advantage of this while you can.
