Regarded as the most prestigious two year old race in the UK – The Dewhurst Stakes is run during the Future Champions Meeting in October, at Newmarket Racecourse on Saturday 8th October 2011. It is usual for the winner and those who have been deemed to have run well in the Dewhurst Stakes to be aimed for the opening colts Classic of the following season, the 2000 Guineas – so this can be one to watch.
Racing At The Dewhurst Stakes
Established in 1875, the Dewhurst Stakes was founded by Tom Gee, and it was named after his Dewhurst Stud in Sussex. Run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 7 furlongs the Dewhurst Stakes provide a challenging environment for some of the countries rising stars. The course tends to favour the strong and mighty horse that can keep putting to power down throughout the entire length of the run.
