Chester Racecourse

Chester Racecourse - From The Air

The racecourse’s position in the city makes race meetings at Chester very popular as it is only a very short stroll to all the hotels, bars, shopping district and restaurants. The racecourse itself is just over 1-mile (1.6 km) long, flat and raced anti-clockwise. The main characteristic of the course is the very short straight and as such, long-strided horses, which perform better on straights, are at a distinct disadvantage.

The most prestigious race to be held at Chester Racecourse is the Cheshire Oaks, a 1 mile, 3 furlong race open to three year old fillies. It serves as a trial for the Epsom Oaks later in the year and can be a goldmine for gamblers in the know. A low draw and a speedy start gives a massive benefit at this tight racecourse.
