Epsom Downs Racecourse

Set in the beautiful rolling hills of the North Downs in Surrey, just 30 minutes from London, Epsom has a fabulous fixture list of thirteen race days a year and each and every one is worth seeing. Home to the iconic Investec Derby Festival including the Derby and the Oaks, racing has taken place at this idyllic and unique setting for over 230 years.

As well as being one of the most famous racecourses in the world, it’s also one of the most testing and stunning tracks in flat racing today.

Epsom Racecourse

Epsom presents a stern challenge for inexperienced horses and a true test of stamina for those that might previously have contested the 2,000 Guineas Stakes over a mile (1600m). Resembling the shape of a horseshoe, the Derby course of a mile and a half is ran in a left-handed direction. A right-handed rise of some one hundred and forty feet begins not long after the race commences.

After about three furlongs at the top of the hill the field descend at Tattenham Corner and enter the finishing straight of about three and a half furlongs. The drop of about one hundred feet continues until about one hundred yards from the finishing line, the ground here rises for another several feet before the winning post

Epsom Racecourse Festival

The Investec Derby Festival is one of the most famous and iconic events in both the sporting and social calendars. This year’s festival took place on 4th & 5th June, in glorious sunshine in front of over 100,000 spectators and to a TV audience of over 200 million people

The two feature races on Investec Ladies Day are the Investec Coronation Cup and the Investec Oaks. The Investec Oaks, arguably the top race for fillies in Europe, is contended over the same 1 ½ mile course as the Investec Derby and features only the finest 3 year old fillies, ensuring the action off course is matched by the style and glamour alongside it.

The highlight of the Investec Derby Festival is undoubtedly the Investec Derby. The race stands apart from any other as the greatest horse race in the world. 2010 was the 231st running of The Investec Derby and today it remains the race that every owner, trainer, breeder and jockey wants to win more than any other. The Investec Derby is witnessed by a crowd of up to 125,000 who flock to Epsom Downs to celebrate a one of the most historic and quintessentially English events.
