Lingfield Racecourse hosts a variety of race meetings all year round that include Flat and National Hunt racing, family days, racing & music nights and the ever popular ladies’ evening. Known as one of the most picturesque racecourses in the UK and nestled within 450 acres of rolling Surrey countryside, it is the perfect setting for a great day at the races.
Lingfield is best known as a winter all-weather flat-racing course; the track is Polytrack based, rather than the usual turf found in the UK – Lingfield stages flat racing on turf in the summer and all National Hunt races are also run on the turf.
The highlight of the turf season is Derby and Oaks Trial day in May. Some of the most promising horses will be given the run here, and the results can help sure up any doubts as the season gets under way. The downhill run towards the home straight is similar in camber to Tattenham Corner and the trials have often been a good pointer for Epsom. The Oaks race is for three-year old fillies and The Derby is a race for three-year old horses. Both the Derby and the Oaks are run over a distance of 1 mile 4 furlongs and 5 yards in late May and June at Epsom. Two of the English ‘Classics’ races, and so by virtue of this, two of the most important races in the world – the early work starts here.
