Betfanatic.co.uk have decided to compile information on UK racecourses and share it with our members – todays feature is Newbury Racecourse, and we’ll be bringing you key information such as what facilities there are and how you get there. Newbury is one of the overlooked gems in the UK calender and it is always worth a visit to the racecourse for an exciting day out.
Home to the famous Hennessy Gold Cup, Newbury Racecourse offers some of the best horse racing in the country with raceday hospitality to match. There are various entry options to suit all tastes but we recommend the premier enclosure. It’s positioned directly in front of the Winning Post giving you the best views of the racing and easy access to the parade ring and winners enclosure. There is a wide range of outdoor and indoor food and drink options. There is a Champagne & Seafood bar on the ground floor of the Hampshire Stand and if you would like a sit down meal you have the choice of the first floor bistro in the Berkshire Stand or the panoramic Hennessy Restaurant – which we’ll come onto later. Grandstand only tickets and tickets for the picnic area are also available if you are looking for a less involved experience.
Newbury has racecourses for flat races and over jumps. It hosts one of Great Britain’s 31 Group 1 flat races, the Lockinge Stakes which is the crown in the Newbury Season.
The Racecourse Grounds are thoughtfully laid out, the Parade Ring also referred to as the paddock, is centrally located, and this is where horses are led around having been saddled immediately before their race and the jockeys will mount the horses here. Not surprisingly this is the centre of activity, and is great for soaking up the atmosphere. You can see all the horses for the next race, along with some of the sport’s most well known jockeys, trainers and owners having their final discussions before the race.

There is also an array of speciality Fair Trade Coffees and snacks to choose from.

Newbury does have a dress code, and a brief outline follows: The majority of customers do not want jeans, denim, t-shirts and other collarless shirts, beachwear, trainers, or unduly casual clothing in the Premier Enclosure during racing. Anyone wearing such items will be asked to move to other enclosures, where more casual dress is accepted by the majority.
Racegoers in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures usually dress smartly. Smart shorts and jeans are acceptable but no bare tops or sleeveless vests. Newbury Racecourse makes for a very exciting day out, and we really do advise you go along and feel the atmosphere for yourselves.
Make every day a winner!
