So, you’ve got tickets to Newmarket Racecourse and are wondering what it’s going to be like once you arrive on Raceday – what facilities are going to be present, is there a dress code and how do I get there? These are questions we get asked on an almost daily basis, so Betfanatic.co.uk have decided to compile information on UK Racecourses and share it with our members – starting today with Newmarket.
The headquarters of British horse racing, and home to the largest cluster of training yards in the country, Newmarket has the honour of being one of the crown jewel racecourses in the UK. There are two racecourses at Newmarket, the Rowley Mile Course and the July Course. Nine Group One races and many hundreds of lesser races will be run over the length of the season – with some high class betting opportunities to enjoy. The Rowley Mile Course has a 1 mile 2 furlong straight with minor undulations towards ‘The Bushes’, two furlongs (400 m) out. The penultimate furlong (200 m) is downhill and the last is uphill, forming ‘The Dip’ – a classic test of stamina as the horses race uphill.
The Rowley mile course is run in Spring, The first important meeting of the British flat racing season takes place in April and here racegoers can not only see some of the new stars of the year in action for the first time, but also witness several important Classic trials pointing the way ahead to, in particular, Newmarket’s two Guineas races and Epsom’s Derby and Oaks.
The July Course has a 1 mile straight, known as ‘The Bunbury Mile’.
After 2 furlongs, there is a long downhill stretch before the uphill furlong to the finish. Planning permission was granted by East Cambridgeshire District Council for the first stage of Newmarket Racecourses’ redevelopment of the July Course and work started on the £10m upgrade in early September 2006.Immediately after the end of the summer racing season Kier Eastern were awarded the contract to carry out the works, carried out in a single phase between September 2006 and May 2007, opening in time for the start of the summer racing season on the July Course in 2007.

Newmarket Racecourse Dress Code
Newmarket does have a dress code, and it is different depending on which enclosure you are in. A brief outline follows:
The majority of Premier Enclosure customers do not want jeans, denim, t-shirts and other collarless shirts, beachwear, trainers, or unduly casual clothing in the Premier Enclosure during racing. Anyone wearing such items will be asked to move to other enclosures, where more casual dress is accepted by the majority.
Racegoers in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures usually dress smartly. Smart shorts and jeans are acceptable but no bare tops or sleeveless vests.
Newmarket Racecourse makes for a very exciting day out, and we really do advise you go along and feel the atmosphere for yourselves.
Make every day a winner!
