Newton Abbot Racecourse is the leading summer jumping racecourse in the UK. Set in the rolling Devon countryside, you are guaranteed great racing and great fun. Few experiences arouse the senses more than the sight and sound of thoroughbred racehorses in full flight. Newton Abbot has a full racing calendar throughout the year with meetings on various days, evenings and weekends.
The most westerly racecourse in Britain, Newton Abbot can be found mid-way between the popular seaside resorts of Exmouth and Torquay. The course is a tight flat left-handed oval of about 1m1f. There are seven fences to a circuit and a very short run in. One of the friendliest tracks in the south. The chase course is very sharp (on the inside of the hurdles track) and previous winners here always command respect, though runners with form at similar tracks such as Fakenham and Stratford are also worth keeping an eye on.
An example of Newton Abbot’s unique nature is that the third last is the water jump – probably the most influential obstacle of its kind in British racing, and key in deciding the outcome of many of the races.
