Sandown Park Racecourse is one of UK horse racing’s most loved and revered venues. Founded in 1875, Sandown Park Racecourse has provided the backdrop to some of the greatest moments in horse racing history.
Whether you’re a seasoned racing buff, a new convert gripped by the thrilling spectacle of the chase, or simply a curious visitor in search of an exhilarating live sporting event, a day at the races at Sandown Park has it all. With spectacular race meetings throughout the year including the bet365 Gold Cup, Coral-Eclipse and Tingle Creek as well our Music Nights and Military themed race days, you will have unique access to the horses before they race, an uninterrupted view of the live racing action and a huge choice of restaurants and watering holes to suit every taste and budget.
One of the principal dual-purpose tracks in Britain, virtually all of Sandown’s 26 meetings feature top-class racing. On the Flat, there are a number of pattern races highlighted by the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse in July. The three evening meetings are also not to be missed. Over fences, the steeplechase course offers one of the most exciting spectacles in racing, particularly the Railway Fences, three obstacles taken in quick succession down the back straight. The Whitbread Gold Cup brings the National Hunt season to an official close on a day that also features pattern races on the Flat.
Flat Racing is run on a natural grass surface (turf) or on a synthetic surface (all-weather) over a level track at a predetermined distance from five furlongs (1006 m) to over two miles (3219 m). They are generally called sprints, middle distance or stayers races. Jump Racing (also known as steeplechasing or hurdling) derives its name from early races in which orientation of the course was by reference to a church steeple, jumping fences and ditches and generally traversing the many intervening obstacles in the countryside.
Sandown Park Racecourse Facilities
The Grandstand Enclosure
The spacious, modern Grandstand is designed to get you as close to the action as is humanly possible. You can check out your favourite at the Parade Ring, then move quickly back to the ‘steppings’ – from which, famously, you can see the entire course without obstruction. The rear balcony overlooks the Parade Ring and links the bars and the seating areas. You can choose from a wide variety of restaurants and food outlets that cater for every taste and budget.
The Premier Enclosure
At Sandown Park, you’ll enjoy a fabulous view of the racing that is probably unequalled in the UK. The covered seating is directly opposite the winning post: you couldn’t hope for a better position. There are a host of excellent bars and restaurants for when you’re not glued to the racecourse.
Sandown Park offers a wide variety of dining options from Costa Coffee, sandwiches and hot meals in the family-friendly Food Hall, to fine dining in the Tingle Creek Restaurant. With a host of bars open every race day including the Green’s Champagne Bar, deciding where to eat and drink will be your hardest decision.

Enjoy a full à la carte menu in a fine dining atmosphere. The Tingle Creek Restaurant boasts spectacular views of the racecourse and winning post and provides the perfect base for your day at the races. Always a popular choice so we advise you book in advance. Our recently refurbished Brasserie is now open the Premier Enclosure each race day, boasting a new contemporary design and modern menu focusing on seasonal dishes and local produce. The menu has been designed with something for everyone so that diners can enjoy delights such as Grilled Organic Burgers, Posh Fish Pie, or 28 day Char-Grilled Scottish Rib Eye Steak. To finish, enjoy Bitter Chocolate Tart or a British Cheese Plate. New as well, is the introduction of Green’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar in the Champagne Bar, where guests can dine on food provided by one of London’s most successful and consistent fish restaurants. The partnership has its roots in history as there has always been a strong connection between Green’s and the racing community with Simon Parker Bowles, founder and owner of the restaurant being a big racing enthusiast. True to its origins, fish dishes dominate the Green’s menu, which will include Rock Oysters, Smoked Salmon, Potted Shrimps, Sea Food Platter and a soup. |
