The next track to be featured in our guide features award winning modern grandstands, characterful listed buildings, manicured lawns and home grown flowers, setting the scene for the best of race days at York Racecourse. The track is situated on the Knavesmire, in the Southwest of the City of York and has the pleasure of hosting 3 of the UK’s Group One Horse Races.
York Racecourse with a spectator capacity of 60,000 is a highlight of the racing year. The most famous race to be held at York on an annual basis is the Ebor Handicap, which is run during the Ebor Festival meeting in August. The course also stages the International Stakes, the Nunthorpe Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks. and is one of the most exciting, vibrant tracks in the country.Known as ‘The Knavesmire’, racing has been staged over this turf since 1731 and is without question one of the most attractive racecourses in the world.
Thoroughbred horses are a magnificent sight to see, with racing offering one of the best opportunities to see them close up. Visit the parade ring to watch the horses before a race, pick a winner, watch the jockeys mount and see them canter down to the start.
Runners drawn very high and very low struggle in big-field sprints here, but the biggest draw bias lies over 1m2f85yds, where any runner drawn high in a big field faces a near-impossible task. Concentrate on: the bottom seven stalls over 1m2f85yds when 14+ runners, Cross out: the bottom four and top four stalls in sprints when 18+ runners.
When Ascot closed for renovation York was immediately made a short-priced favourite to play temporarily home to the Royal meeting. A loop has been added to the previous horseshoe shape in order to accommodate the Ascot Gold Cup and in the long-run this is bound to be of immense benefit to racegoers at this superb racecourse
Both the Voltitgeur and Ebor restaurants offer the finest ‘Dine and View’ experience with commanding views of the track. Whilst other options, such as the Winning Post Pavilions, allow an opportunity to be at the heart of the racecourse. At York you are able to choose a location to suit your requirements.
